14-Nights, 4-star
properties With Air - Just _______
This
write-up if from our last trip. Final details on our trip for
2024 will be posted by June
This trip has
been months in the planning and is what we proudly feel is now worthy
of our audience It will make for an amazing journey
for sure, taking us from the Balearic Islands to Costa del Sol, on
a day trip across the Strait of Gibraltar into Morocco and finally
into Lisbon, Portugal for a full 2-week trip. It will
have us moving around quite a bit but also visiting 3 different
countries and 2 continents!
We have group
air that will take us from LAX (stops off in Philadelphia for the east
coast people) to the island of Mallorca for our first 4 nights which
will be relaxing and fun way to kick off this trip.
Megalithic,
Roman, Vandal, Byzantine and Moslem civilizations, the medieval
Christian conquest
of 1229 and events up to our time have all left their mark.
For many years Mallorca has
been a favorite nautical destination for Europeans and Spanish people
due to a variety of reasons. But the main reason is that it is an
extraordinarily beautiful place in the Mediterranean, with
crystal-clear waters and an ideal weather.
Mallorca is the
largest of the Balearic Islands and has many interesting attractions
for tourists. Our hotel is idyly located in the harbor, just a few
minutes walk from the Old Towne in Palma. Attractions in and around
Palma de Mallorca include the city's dramatic seafront Cathedral (La
Seu) - which was constructed in the 13th century and took almost 400
years to complete; the
Parc de la Mar - a tiered park offering splendid views of the
waterfront; and the grand Almudaina Palace - a formal royal residence
dating back almost 700 years. There are many museums in Mallorca,
offering interesting information about the island and its history,
which dates back to ancient times and boasts traces of Roman and Arab
civilizations. Appeaing art galleries are also present on Mallorca,
exhibiting various works of art, such as the Museu d'Art Espanyol
Contemporani, which has paintings by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and
Salvador Dali.
Our 4-star hotel
here is situated on the harbor a short walk into the main old town
area and we have paid an extra fee to guarantee everyone sea view
rooms!
After 4-nights in Mallorca we
will fly off to Torremolinos for another 4-nights. We will be in the heart of Costa
del Sol and the place of the oldest civilizations in the
Mediterranean. Torremolinos is one of the Costa del Sol's prime
destinations. The excellent coastline, combined with the pleasant
climate, are just some of the attractions this Andalusian
town offers.
Read
more Torremolinos has a long and extensive history, as the
many Phoenician,
Greek,
Roman and
Arab remains found in
the area testify. Next door it is possible to visit other towns in the
Málaga region such as
Benalmádena and
Fuengirola. Inland are
mountain villages like Mijas an enchanting
small village where you can climb up and down the many narrow streets
and enjoy a donkey-taxi ride to a spectacular vantage point
with beautiful white flowers. Our hotel is ideally situated
across from a beautiful beach and also within easy bus tours of
Granada, Ronda,
Cordoba,
Marbella and Malaga. You can count on
us to set up some very interesting optional tours to take in some of the
beautiful and quaint towns. Like our trip last year to the South of
France we will hire our own guides and bus and chart out 3 days of
tours to some of the most fascinating towns. Cost for these tours will
run approx. $40 a day and will give us plenty of freedom and variety.
We will take one day and cross the Strait of
Gibraltar to the African continent for
a
one-day trip to Morocco (cost included). We take a fast ferry across to Morocco
(35 minutes) where we begin our
trip with a guided tour of Tangier.
We
will cross different
quarters of Tangiers, stop for photos and camel rides and then head
back downtown, going on a walking tour to the Kasbah (walled city),
the medina (old city) and the souks. We'll
stop for lunch at a typical restaurant to enjoy the Arab food (harira
soup, cous-cous, brochete, Moroccan tea and pattisserie). Finally
we'll
visit a Moroccan bazaar where bargaining over prices is part of the
shopping culture.
Next up is Sevilla, a city you are sure to fall in love
with as I did. Once again our hotel is perfectly situated within easy
walking distance to all the attractions including the wonderful palace
of Alcázar and the
Catedral de Sevilla and Giralda Tower, the largest Gothic building in
the world and the third-largest church in Europe. It is truly
impressive. We will have 2 nights here at a very nice, 4-star hotel
located just steps from all the attractions.
Finally, to wrap
up our journey we will spend 4 more nights in Lisbon. It's
one of the world's great historical cities, with characteristic
and surprising sights, cultural treasures, and a beautiful setting
that make it a paradise for walkers
and photographers. Lisbon is Europe's second-oldest capital
(after Athens), once home to the world's greatest explorers like
Magellan and Prince Henry the Navigator, becoming the first true world
city, the capital of an empire spreading over all continents, from
South America (Brazil) to Asia (Macao, China; Goa, India). It’s one of
the world's greatest natural harbors which attracted different
civilizations, now reflected in its architecture and culture recalling
Phoenicians, Celts, Romans, Visigoths and Moors. A charming visual
time-warp with medieval village-like
neighborhoods.
Lisbon also offers World Heritage monuments and singular
museum treasures. Our stay will be at
a beautiful, 5-star hotel in the city centre that will make
a perfect base
to explore many of
Portugal's most outstanding towns and villages. From
Evora and
Obidos to fairytale
palaces in one of
Europe's most romantic
towns (Sintra),
we
will have 4 nights and 3 full days for our day tours. Again we will
hire our private guide and motor coach to enable us to offer optional
tours with freedom and flexibility at an amazing group rate that you
have come to appreciate.
That will
conclude our 2-week European and Moroccan vacation and will bring you
home on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend where you can rest up before
heading back to work.
We do realize
that this trip is several hundred dollars more than our spring Europe
trips but we also want to point out that this is a 14-day trip and you
will also notice that the departure taxes are substantially less then
the $650 we had to charge on those trips. We have also made every
effort to choose very nice properties once again on this trip so we do
feel that it makes for an excellent value once again.
Can't take
2-weeks off? We are happy to work with you to cut out either the
Mallorca portion or the Lisbon portion of this trip.

LISBON
Eurostars Hotel das Letras -
5 STARS!
The Eurostars Das Letras Hotel
is one of the most rewarding and breakaway novelties that has
happened in the last few years by the Tagus estuary. It is a
luxury establishment where the secret ingredients of our recipe
are blended in perfect proportions: design, top quality comfort,
the latest in technological advances and, of course, literature
and more literature. Each one of the 107 rooms of he Eurostars Das
Letras is dedicated to a celebrated writer: our guests will find
on their bed headrest a large frame with a fragment of a
particular author in its original version – from Shakespeare to
Calderón de la Barca, from Virgil to Saramago – the essence of
universal literature from every era.
