I am very pleased to bring you the ultimate
Southern Italy / Amalfi coast trip that will take you to some
of the most romantic and enchanting spots. This will certainly
be a trip that you will
never
forget. We did this trip back in 2017 so it will have been 5 years
ago. The trip was perfect so we are making very few changes.
We will depart the US on April
20th and arrive in Naples the next day. We start this tour off
with 5 relaxing nights in Sorrento. I say relaxing because
some of our Europe trips have been somewhat busy and rushed. This
trip will offer plenty of time to explore in smaller groups and
at your own pace.
Our first stop is Sorrento on
the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento has no major tourist attractions per
se, only the town itself with its enchanting palazzi and charming
historic quarter. With convenient access to trains, buses and
ferries Sorrento is also a perfect base for visiting this region.
Set high atop a bluff on the peninsula it has a stunning view
of the Bay of Naples. There are fabulous restaurants and nightlife
as well as charming streets where you can shop and browse. Its
streets seem like 19th-century sepia photographs with ruins of
the Roman Empire strewn about and Vesuvius looming in the distance.
As a hub for a banquet of must-see sites - Pompeii and Naples
to the north and Amalfi Coast to the south - Sorrento is unequaled.
The Sorrento peninsula also offers the best beaches and restaurants.
We'll have 5 full days to enjoy
optional tours to many of the beautiful and historic places such
as Pompeii and Herculaneum, the most completely preserved
cities of classical antiquity. The public bus, which runs every
hour, will make it easy for us to visit some of the other quaint
villages nestled in the hillsides along the Amalfi
coast
at our own pace. It's a spectacular ride that takes you along
the sea as the road wiggles in and out hundreds of feet above
the water. This road was completed in 1852 and is a seemingly
improbably engineering feat. Gorgeous vistas appear along these
almost 25 miles stretching from Sorrento to Vietri. Some of the
notable towns on the drive include the nearby
Positano, that's
built like a steep amphitheatre this town's only job is to look
enchanting. Offering a dazzling layer cake of civilizations this
medieval city is so
picturesque it will practically click your camera for you.
I almost booked our group to stay here rather than Sorrento but
there isn't enough to do and Sorrento was much more convenient.
Vettica Maggiore with it's priceless panorama from the seaside
piazza and church; Conca
Dei Marini, retreat of the rich and famous with its villas
and churches; Atrani, lined with piggy-backed houses and corkscrew
staircases this medieval town revolves around a picture-perfect
piazza; Amalfi,
the largest town and must-do because of its spectacular cathedral
and impossibly romantic souk-like streets; and Cetara
with it's waterfront cafes. Is your mouth watering? Mine was when
I looked at those images. Unbelievably scenic.
Some of our other optional tours
will include wonderful day sail in Naples Bay out to the islands
of Procida and Ischia on a beauiful yacht. This was an outstanding
tour on our last trip. There will be another optional tour of
Pompei which is very worthwhile and we can visit the Amalfi coast
by either public bus or private vans. We will also have an option
to cruise Amalfi on 3 private wooden boats. Very classy.
After our 5-nights in this fascinating
city we will hop aboard a ferry that will whisk us off to the
enchanting island of Capri where we will spend the next 3-nights.
Capri
is a balmy and palmy never-
never
land that has been the darling of tourism for 2,500 years. It's
incomparable views and natural wonders - I Faraglioni and the
Blue Grotto are just two of the not-to-be-missed sites on this
fabled isle. With 2 full days here we'll have ample time to enjoy
everything that this charming island has to offer. Pleasure dome
to Roman emperors, and still Italy's most glamorous seaside getaway,
this craggy, whale-shaped island has an epic beauty - cliffs that
are the very embodiment of time, bougainvillea-shaded pathways
overlooking the sea, trees seemingly hewn out of rock by the Greeks.
Capri has always been a stage that lesser mortals could share
with the Beautiful People. Visiting in the spring will be the
ultimate time as the summer time brings huge crowds. The town
itself is a Moorish stage set of sparkling white houses, tiny
squares, and narrow medieval alleyways hung with flowers, while
it's hillsides are spectacular settings for luxurious seaside
villas.
Capri became the centre of power
in the Roman Empire when Tiberius scattered 12 villas around the
island and decided to spend the rest of his life here. This misunderstood
gentleman used Capri as a base to run
the ancient Roman Empire.
Our hotel is right in the center
of Capri Town giving us full access to the shopping and amazing
restaurants on the hill. We will setup optional tours to see the
famous Blue
Groto, Arco
Naturale,
Faraglioni, three pale-ocher limestone colossi that loom out
of the sea soaring 350 feet above the
water,
and Certosa
di San Giacomo, a grand, palatial complex that was for centuries
a Carthusian monasteryjust recently re-opened after a major renovation.
You will also enjoy some great
down time here where you might enjoy strolling the town.
Finally, we're capping off our
trip with 2 nights in Rome. Now, many of you might have already
been to Rome but if you're like me, you will agree that
you probably didn't see or experience it all and it's always worth
another visit. For those who have never been, you are in for a
treat. We will be sure to see the Coliseum, Vatican and Sistine
Chapel as well as the amazing Trevi
Fountain, Spanish Stairs and St. Peter's Basilica. You won't believe
your eyes, and of course you'll wish you had more time here to
take it all in. But there's always next time.
It’s another
incredible singles travel adventure.

CAPRI
Like the idea of staying
in a hotel right in the center of Capri? You're going to love

the island's glamorous social whirl, and 100 meters from Via Camerelle,
Capri's designer shopping street, if it's a centrally-located
4 star you're after, Gatto Bianco is the hotel for you. Totò,
Sofia Loren, Brigitte Bardot... just some of the stars who have
shone in Gatto Bianco's rooms since the hotel opened 65 years
ago.
For three generations,
our family has been greeting guests from all over the world, with
a smile. There's nothing which makes us happier than being able
to share our love of Capri with others!
