April 28th - May 9th

10-Nights, Deluxe 4-star hotels

and air from LAX just $3,150

This trip will complete our Asia trifecta with Vietnam/ Cambodia to follow and then Thailand to follow that. Since our air has a change of planes in Taipei we decided this country would be worth a visit in route. So here you have a 2-night stay in Taipei/ Taiwan and then 8-nights in Palau which will make up a terrific vaction!

TAIPEI:
Taipei has gone from an ugly duckling of Asia to one of the region’s most dynamic, comfortable and liveable cities. Most important to the intrepid traveller, Taipei is also fun. If you take some time to explore, we think you’ll agree that Taipei is a city that’s managed to strike a fine balance between business and beauty, and between chaos and convenience.

We will set up one full day tour that will be included in this package and then willl give the group a second day of free time with plenty of interesting options to choose from. Since we arrive early on the 29th and leave in the afternoon on the May 1st we'll be getting in 2-1/2 days in our 2-night stay! Check out the nice 4-1/2 star hotel we've got set up!

PALAU:
Located in the western Pacific, the more than 250 islands that constitute Palau—a Japanese stronghold during World War II—were assigned to U.S. administration by the United Nations in 1947. Economically tied to the U.S. with the US dollar as its currency, the territory became an independent nation in October 1994. Tourism is the country's main industry, with the rich marine environment inviting snorkeling and scuba diving.

Most tourists who come here like to spend their time underwater, for Palau is among the world's most spectacular diving and snorkeling destinations. It features coral reefs, blue holes, wartime wrecks, hidden caves and tunnels, more than 60 vertical drop-offs to play with, and an astonishing spectrum of coral, fish, and rare sea creatures. There are also some outright miracles of evolution: giant clams that weigh a quarter of a ton, for example, and a lake teeming with 21 million softly pulsating, stingless jellyfish.

But you don't have to get wet to enjoy Palau. On land the republic embraces Micronesia's richest flora and fauna: exotic birds fly around the islands, crocodiles slip through the mangrove swamps and orchids sprout profusely in backyards. The Palauan archipelago is incredibly diverse. The marvelous Rock Islands; Micronesia's second-largest island, Babeldaob(the land that Pacific standard time forgot); Peleliu, once war ravaged, now just ravishing; tranquil, tiny Angaur; the coral atolls of Kayangel and Ngeruangel; and the remote South-West Islands. Toss into the mix some of Micronesia's most sociable (and responsible) people, and it's no surprise that parts of Palau are known as the 'beginning of everything', a template the rest of the world would do well to follow.

Comprising over 200 rounded knobs of limestone, the Rock Islands (known locally as Chalbacheb) are the crown jewels of Micronesia and are part of the Unesco World Heritage list. They are a wormhole into another world, a vista of serene and surreal beauty. Totally covered with green jungle, they dot the waters for a 32km stretch southwest of Koror and are the reason why most travelers come to Palau.

The bases of the islands have been undercut by water erosion fashioning them into utterly unique mushroom shapes. The islands are home to crocodiles and fruit bats and are rich with bird life: kingfishers, reef herons, black noddies, white-tailed tropicbirds, black-napped terns, and introduced cockatoos and parrots. The surrounding waters contain some of the most abundant and varied marine life on the planet, supporting over 1500 varieties of reef and pelagic fish.

What's more, there are four times the number of coral species in Palau than in the Caribbean, including immense tabletop corals, interlocking thickets of staghorn coral and soft corals of all types and colors.

We will partake in a variety of tours - not just diving and snorkeling. Palau offers great hikes to waterfalls, kayaking, swimming with dolphins, guided tours to visit some of the other islands and more. One of the most unique tours in Palau is Jellyfish lake. Located on an uninhabited rock island off the coast of Koror in Palau, Jellyfish Lake is one of 70 saltwater lakes on this South Pacific archipelago that were once connected to the ocean, but are now cut off. The isolated lakes became the perfect setting for a jellyfish explosion, which some speculate were trapped in the lake 12,000 years ago after a rise in sea levels post-Ice Age. Feeding on quick-growing algae and with no predators to keep them in check, the jellyfish now completely pack the small lake. Though the jellyfish do have stingers, they are too small to be felt by humans. Swimming in the lake is safe and permitted. Check out some of the great tour options!
